A Knights Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Nashville,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a Nashville Knights baseball player.

The bat bags were hung from the dug out with care,
In hopes that opening day soon would be there.

The Knights were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of a league championship danced in their heads.
And Bill in his catchers gear, and I in my maroon cap,
Had just stretched out our old bodies for an off season nap.

When out on the infield there arose such a clatter,
the Knights sprang from the dugout to see what was the matter.
Away to Merrill's pitching machine the Knights flew in a flash,
Tore open a dozen new balls and began to hit with a smash.

The lights from Independence School on the freshly cut grass,
Gave the lustre of a big league field to the Knights as they practiced.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a sleeveless Ross Harkins as the crowd began to cheer.

With a tobacco chewing pitcher, so lively and quick,
I new in a moment it had to be right hander Robin Burnette.
More rapid than galloping horses the Knights they came,
As Coach Gubbins whistled, and shouted and called them by name.

Now Scott, now Steve, now Bruce and Jim, on Mark, on Doc,on Doug and David,
To the top of the batting order, to the top of the standings,
Now hit away, hit away, hit away all.

Santa sprang from the dugout to stand in the on deck circle,
And before disappearing into the sky gave his final pregame insight,

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good Knight !

KNIGHTS ENTER FREE AGENT MARKET

Make Run At Bernitt
Considered Top Off Season Target

Givemeabreak
Nashville

With the 2009 Spring and Fall seasons behind them, it should come as no surprise to learn that the Nashville Knights have begun looking ahead to the 2010 campaign.

Sources close to the Knights have confirmed that in addition to a beefed up off season training and conditioning program, the Knights have also let it be known that they will be aggressively involved in the upcoming free agent market.

The Knights move into the free agent race comes on then heels of a team press release announcing that 2009 All Star Steve Ray has elected to opt out of the final year of his contract and will be heading North to play in the "You Damn Yankee League"

Along with Ray's departure, it has also been rumored that Jon "Rocket" Rotker, who missed most of the 2009 season while rehabing from a late season injury in 2008, is himself looking at testing the free agent waters and will possibly bail out on the Knights.

When contacted at his off season estate in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Knights Head Coach Bill Gubbins would only confirm Ray's departure while adding that the club expected to make a strong run at retaining Rotker. "We consider Jon a Knight, and once you've been on the dark side, it's hard to go back into the light" added Gubbins.

When pushed for insight on what other plans the Knights had for this off season, Gubbins didn't waste a second before saying "Pitchers and free agents." Gubbins then added that for the first time in years, the Knights have let it be known that they will open the checkbook and make a run in the free agent market.

"Specifically" said Gubbins, "we want to make sure that we resign free agent Don Bernitt." Continued Gubbins, "after watching him play in 2009, it's no doubt that Don has lost a few steps as he has aged, but at the same time, those appear to be steps most players never had."

Although attempts to reach Bernitt were unsuccessful, reports say that Bernitt, who is planning to climb Mt Shasta next June, has made progress in overcoming a late season knee injury and was seen climbing Mt LaConte in the Smokey Mountains and Eagles Peak in Colorado over the past few weeks.

With just weeks to go until Thanksgiving, it's now hot stove time for the Knights and the rest of the league. If initial indicators hold true, it appears to be only a matter of time before we again hear........

Knight Falls..Season Over

Knights Upset
Playoff Run Over

Almost to a player, the reaction was the same. "What the heck just happened?" In an outcome that few saw coming, the Knights last evening were unceremoniously bounced from the 2009 Cumberland Valley Adult Baseball League Championship Series.

"I hope I speak for everyone on this team when I say this sucks" said first year Knight Don Bernitt following the game. "I fu*&#ing hate to lose." added Bernitt has he packed his bag for the last time this year and headed home for the off season.

Bernitt, who was not in the lineup last evening, went on to vent that he was of the breed that "the feeling of losing is far worse then the good feeling that comes with winning." Added Bernitt, "I've said for a long time, you show me a good loser, and I'll show you a loser."

In game action, the Knights fell behind early and then showing the grit that has grown on the team as the season unfolded, battled back to make it close before falling in the end by a final score of 12 -7

"We let too many runners get in scoring position and that will kill you" said Manager Bill Gubbins at his post game press conference. "At the plate," added Gubbins, "we couldn't seem to capitalize on our chances" as he replayed how not just once but twice the Knights were snake bitten when they had the bases loaded and appeared primed to take the lead.

Gubbins comments pointed to both the 3rd and 5th innings, when the Knights loaded the bases only to have the innings snuffed when hard hit balls by Doug Weaver and Ross Harkins were snagged in circus fashion in the outfield to end the scoring threats.

"They say it's a game of inches and those two balls show you why" said Gubbins as he watched the video clips of the two hard hit balls being caught. "I also have to question if the ball hit by Doug was really caught or not" continued the Knights Manger as he strained to see if in fact it was actually trapped and not caught as was ruled by the field umpire.

"Hey, but anyway you look at it," concluded Gubbins, "we had a fun year and I think everyone on this team will look back on it as a summer to remember and a season to build on." With that, Gubbins removed his catchers gear and began the long walk to season ending shower that no player looks forward to.

And so it goes, the 2009 season is now in the history books and the 2010 season has begun. With retirements, trades, free agent signings and the expansion draft now looming, only time will tell what the next vintage of the Knights will be like. But, one thing that can be said for sure and can be put in writing for all to see, you can bet that 2010 will be a............

It's A New Knight

Regular Season In The Books
Playoffs To Start

Three months ago, they didn't know each other. Today, the Knights can look back on the regular season that was, and the playoff run that is about to be.

Playing their final regular season game of the year yesterday, the Knights showed why they have become the team that "nobody wants to play."

The day for the Knights started with a strong 3 inning performance by right hander Steve Ray. Add in several circus catches by All Star center fielder Doug Weaver, and the Knights were holding tough against league powerhouse Tennessee Dirtbags. Unfortunately, it simply wasn't meant to be. Following the strong start, the Knights struggled in the middle innings before mounting a end of game comeback that concluded with the Knights winding up on the wrong side of the 11-6 final.

"No question we will need the fresh arms of Robin and Ross to help us advance through the upcoming tournament." said Player Manager Bill Gubbins following the game. Gubbins was referring to Knight's Robin Burnette and Ross Harkins who have become the cornerstones of the Knights pitching staff, and, who both have been unable to pitch down the stretch for the Knights.

Up first in the League Championship Series for the Knights is a scheduled Tuesday night tilt against the Cardinals, with the winner of the game advancing to the Championship Semi Finals on Thursday night. "It's win or go home" said Gubbins as he reviewed team stats looking for the best lineup combination leading up to the post season.

And so it goes. The Knights now round third and head for home. The regular season is over and it's now time for Money Ball. So, hang in and hang for it's about to become a......

Hot Days.. Cold Knights..

Not Today
Hunters Lane

As the Knights prepared to break camp this past spring and begin their 2009 campaign, it was veteran Merrill Jackson who summed it up best, "In order to win in this league you need good pitching, good defense, and good hitting."

Jackson's words rang loud and clear yesterday as the Knights battled the scorching summer heat and league leading Thunder. Playing in front of a sparse August crowd, the Knights forgot part three of Jackson's equation as they appeared to have left their bats on the team bus.

Facing the Thunders ace left handed pitcher, C.C. Samantha, the Knights struggled through out the game to catch up with the southpaws fastball, and by games end could mustered only 4 walks and 1 hit in the losing effort.

As has been the tone set latley by the Knights, there were bright spots to be found on the day. Now gearing up for the playoff run, the Knights once again worked a mix and match pitching rototion that allowed for additional game condition experience for right handers Mark Gardner, Scott McKissack and Steve Ray.

"I told the team that we're in a marathon, not a sprint" said Player Manager Bill Gubbins following the game, "it's late in the season and we still have some fresh arms available, I like our chances" concluded Gubbins as he smashed his bat against a Tennessee Stinging Red Wasp that had been buzzing the Knights dug out most of the game.

With the dog days of summer now in full bark, it's go time for the Knights as they take the week off to prepare for the final charge of the reguaar season and start the playoff run. As we have seen all year, there is no telling what the outcome will be, but this is for sure, it's been a....

Harkins Placed On 21 Day Disabled List

Harkins Shelved
Could Be Out For Season

***FLASH***

In a statement released by the Knights front office today, it has announced that the leading vote getter in this years All Star voting, Ross Harkins, has been placed on the 21 Day Disabled List retroactive to July 27th.

The announcement, which coincides with Harkins absence from the Knights last few games, stated that Harkins appeared to have suffered a partial tear of rotator cuff during his last game with the Knights.

Although initial test results have not been made public, it has been confirmed that Harkins is currently in Kansas City to seek examination and advice from shoulder specialist Sandy Armstrong.

When contacted via cell phone, Harkins said that it was on a bang - bang grounder to short play that he first felt the twinge of pain that has now manifested itself into the possible season ending injury.

"Yea, it's not good" said Harkins before adding that he is for all intents, unable to throw at all. "I tried to toss a Nurf Ball during my exam and I thought my arm was going to fall off" said Harkins as he fought back tears at the tought of being placed on the PUP list.

Harkins said that he will spend the next few days in intensive rehab that will include Hay Bale tossing as part of the routine. "I don't see myself pitching again this year, but I hope to try and swing the bat if nothing else" concluded Harkins.

Reached at the Knights training complex this afternoon, team Player - Manger Bill Gubbins said that he had not talked to Harkins today but that he was aware of the situation. "We knew about this last week and although we will miss his innings, I'm confident that our bullpen will rise to the occasion."

With that said, Gubbins was seen scrolling thru his phone contact list and the call was heard...."Hey Merrill, get ready"

Knights Stumble

Layoff Shows
Thompsons Station

In a season that has since week one been hit by rain out after rain out, the Knights took to the field last night for what seemed liked to be the first time in a month.

With the regular season coming to an end, and the playoffs coming into focus, the Knights last night showed the ill effects of their recent layoff as they came out flat and were never really in the game.

After scoring in the first inning, the Knights then struggled the rest of the game to mount much of an offense. "It comes down to timely hitting, and we didn't get the job done tonight" said Player - Manager Bill Gubbins as he slammed his batting helmet against the dug out wall following the game.

Gubbins comments reflected the fact that although Knights Robin Burnette and Steve Ray each had a multiple hits night, combined with towering doubles off the fence by Darin Kellett and David Hall, the rest of the Knights bats were all but silent during the course of the game.

As previously mentioned, the Knights have been hit hard by the rainmaker dance this season, but as it is well known, following the rains come the sun. To that end, there were a few rays of sunshine for the Knights last evening as the club smooths its edges in preparation for the playoff run.

"We got a chance to get some experience under our belts" said Gubbins as he pointed out that pitchers Mark Gardner and David Hall each got in a couple of good innings on the hill. "I gotta tell ya" added Gubbins, "I like our pitching staff going down the stretch"

Next up for the Knights, a Saturday 10:00 AM matinee at Hunters Lane in suburban Nashville. With the season rapidly coming to an end, it's fair to ask, are these Knights the favorites to win the upcoming tournament and league championship? In a recent Mason - Dixon poll it has been determined that although not a favorite to win it all, the Knights do sit as the team that other clubs in the league have named the "Team you least want to play."

And so it goes, the Knights are back in the saddle and ready to go, so sit back and enjoy the ride as the 2009 Knights round third and head for home.

Knights Player Suspended

***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***
Nashville,TN

In news out of Nashville, sources close to the Knights, and speaking only on the condition of anonymity, are reporting that first year player Don Bernitt has been handed a 4 game suspension for a violation of the leagues standard uniform rules.

Although the suspension can not be confirmed at this time, it can be reported that even to the causal observer, Bernitt has to this point in the season flagrantly violated Rule C Section 103 Paragraph 6 that states in part...."all uniformed players will make at least a half ass effort to have the same color hat on to begin the game."

To fans in attendance, as well as the opposing teams and umpires, Bernitt to this point in the season has stood apart from his teammates by wearing a maroon hat as opposed to the standard team issued Knight Blue hat adorned with Knight White insignia letter.

When approached for comment about the report of his impending suspension, Bernitt said "listen fellow, I'm here to play baseball, period. But, as long as you bring it up" continued Bernitt, "there's 5 or 6 guys here who don't have team hats, can I help it if I'm color blind and bought the wrong color?"

Asked if he would appeal the suspension, Bernitt said that he would confer with his attorney's before making any decisions. "The kicker is" added Bernitt "my attorney's are in China." Bernitt then packed his bag, gathered his passport and boarded a plane for a 2 week visit to China.

See you in a couple weeks, go Knights.

Bad Knight

Knights Fall
Thompsons Station

As scheduled, and following Wednesday nights makeup game that saw the Knights lose in the ninth inning, the stage was set last night for the much anticipated rematch between the Knights and the league leading Tennessee Dirtbags.

With a near capacity crowd on hand for Knights Bobble Head Night, the Knights appeared rested and ready to go as they went thru their pregame warm up leading to the scheduled 7:15PM first pitch.

Following a sterling rendition of the National Anthem sung by Knights first baseman Merrill Jackson, the home team Knights then took to the field ready to do battle as they set out to even the score for Wednesday nights heartbreaking loss.

Unfortunately for the Knights and their fans, the evenings excitement then came to a screeching halt as the well rounded Dirtbags came out swinging. Before the Knights knew what hit them, the visiting team posted 4 runs in their first at bat and from there never looked back.

"Did anyone get the licence plate of that Mack truck that just hit us" asked out fielder Bruce Sloan as he and the rest of the Knights sat shell shocked as the Dirtbags soon jumped out to an insurmountable 9-0 lead after three innings.

"Just one of those nights I guess" said starting pitcher Robin Burnette as he tried to keep an upbeat attitude and turned the ball over to relief pitcher Doug Weaver. As has been his mindset from the season opener, Weaver then took to the hill in an attempt to slow the onslaught and stop the beat down being leveled against the Knights.

"Gentlemen, my bad" said Player Manager Bill Gubbins following the game, "I told Doug before the game that if he pitched I was going to hold him to a 75 pitch maximum, I guess I just forgot to tell him that he didn't have to throw them all in one inning" joked Gubbins as he and the Knights laughed off the final outcome of the game.

As the ole saying goes, you win as a team and you lose as a team. Hey Cumberland Valley Adult Baseball Association don't look now, but the Knights are a team!

Not To-Knight

Knights Let One Slip Away
Thompson Station

For eight innings it was anyone's game. After nine, it was a game for the Knights to look back on as one they let get away.

"Can you believe the game Kevin pitched tonight?" asked Player Manager and starting catcher Bill Gubbins following the game. Gubbins, referring to the brilliant performance of right hander Kevin Wunderlin who made his first start of the season last night for the Knights, then added, "we let them off the hook tonight."

Playing an odd Wednesday night game to meet the scheduling request of the Cumberland Valley Adult Baseball League, and in front of a national television audience, the Knights last night took on the two time defending league champion Dirtbags, and when it was over provided yet another example of why this years Knights are a team to watch as we head towards post season play.

"Yea, I felt good tonight" said Wunderlin as he iced his shoulder down in the Knights clubhouse following the game that saw him pitch 7 strong innings in his season debut. Along with a masterful job pitching, Wunderlin also was involved in several key defensive plays that included being on the front end of not one, but two double plays turned by the Knights.

Along with a near flawless night in the field, the Knights saw flashes of their budding offense as well as they were paced by the three hit night of All Star center fielder Doug Weaver. Along with Weaver, first year Knights Steve Ray and Ross Harkins also chipped in multiple hit performance's to keep the lineup turning.

In the game that saw the Knights and the Dirtbags trade punches throughout, it was in the end the Knights lack of the big hit that cost the game and saw the Knights fall by a final score of 8-6. "We left too many runners on base tonight" commented Knight utility man Don Bernitt following the game. "We had our chances and we didn't come up with the key hit when it was needed" added Bernitt following his own 0-3 night at the plate.

Despite the loss, and the frustration that comes with it, last night again laid witness to the growing legend of the Knights. It is now not a question of if, but instead it is a question of when. When will this team put all the pieces together and show the league that the torch is being passed, and why it will soon be carried high by the Knights.

For fans wishing to see the Knights in action, there is a rare back to back night of action scheduled as the Knights will take to the field again tonight for a rematch with last nights opponent. If last night is a hint of what is ahead, do not be surprised to see the tables turned as the Knights make another strong charge to get back into the winners column. Until then,

ALL KNIGHT LONG

Knights Pluck Cardinals
Thompson Station

"In baseball, it takes three things to win; hitting, defense and pitching" explained Knights first baseman Merrill Jackson as he expressed his dugout philosophy prior to the start the Knights Tuesday night game in Thompson Station.

Then, playing under a moonlit sky, and in front of a raucous sold out crowd, the Knights took to the field and brought Jackson's words to life as they hit, fielded and pitched their way to a 13-3 dismantling of the visiting Cardinals.

"Gentlemen, good effort all around." said Knights Player - Manager Bill Gubbins after the game. "If we continue to play like this we can and will beat every team in this league." added Gubbins as he watched a spectacular post game fireworks show to celebrate the coming 4th of July holiday.

In a game that saw the Cardinals score in their first at bat, the Knights answered the call of the night as they exploded early and often to set season highs for hits, runs, extra base hits and stolen bases.

Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the second, Knights cleanup hitter Kevin Wunderlin hit a bases loaded double to the deepest part of the park to clear the bases and begin the romp that followed. In the hitting parade that was the evening, Scott McKissack, who had just completed a rehab assignment in Florida, returned to the Knights lineup with two hits and two runs scored to help pace the Knights to the win.

On the hill for the Knights, it was the lanky right hander Robin Burnette who got the start and picked up the win for the now 4-5 Knights. Burnette gave the Knights a strong 2 innings before giving way to Doug Weaver and Mark Gardner who held the Cardinals at bay in middle innings before turning the game over to flamethrower Ross Harkins who shut the Cardinals down and in the process picked up career save number 199.

With the impressive win, the Knights seem to have answered all the preseason questions that swirled around this franchise, and have made it even more clear why if you come to the ballpark early enough you will hear the PA system blaring the song 'I'm A Believer'

KNIGHTS FALL

Too Little Too Late
The Boro

Following a loss two weeks ago in which the Knights scored 10 runs, Player - Manager Bill Gubbins stated that no team should score that many runs and lose. Yesterday, Gubbins flipped the other side of that coin up as he and the Knights allowed only 4 runs and yet still lost.

"I didn't see this coming" said Gubbins as he looked for an explanation on why the Knights bats remained silent for most of the day. "Maybe it was those puffy muffins that were served before the game." offered Jim Blaney as he left the Knights club house following the loss.

Trailing 4 - 1, the Knights did mount a ninth inning charge that saw them score twice before following short in a game that ended with the Knights on the wrong side of the 4-3 final.

"You have to learn how to win close games, and I think we took a big step towards doing that" said Knights starting pitcher Robin Burnette following the game. Burnette pitched 4 strong innings before giving way to relievers Doug Weaver and Mark Gardner. Weaver, who delayed a trip to Chattanooga to be at the game, pitched 2 flawless innings before turning things over to Gardner who closed out the game on the hill for the Knights.

Along with the strong pitching performance that saw Knights pitchers combine for seven strikeouts while allowing zero walks, veteran catcher Bill Gubbins took the league lead by snuffing out two steal attempts when he threw out runners number two and three on the season.

As for offense, the Knights basically had none, "I guess we left our hitting shoes at home today" piped left fielder Bruce Sloan at the Knights post game meal of chicken wings and cold beer at a local Murfreesboro eatery. "I'm looking forward to our next game already" added field general David Hall as he and sluggers Ross Harkins and Steve Ray chowed down on the endless flow of wings and beer.

Next up, a Tuesday night tilt against the Cardinals leading up to the Fourth of July All Star break. With the season now near its half way point, there is no doubt that it's a new day in Knightville and the fun has just begun. Until then,,

Knights Own The Evening

Win In The Books
Run Record To 3-4

Thompson Station

If it's hot, and if it's muggy, it can mean only one thing; it's baseball time in Tennessee! Coming off a win this past weekend, the Knights took the field Tuesday night in Thompson Station as they looked to keep their winning ways going.

"It's amazing what winning does for your team" said Knights Manager Bill Gubbins as he warmed up in the bullpen prior to the start of the game. "I don't know how to describe it, but I know it when I see it, and this team has it" added newly added Knights first baseman Merrill Jackson as he took a few swings in the cage to loosen up.

Now seven games into season, the 2009 Knights have begun to raise a few eyebrows around the league as word gets out that this is a team to be reckoned with. Not to disappoint, the Knights showed up last night with both barrels loaded and took the field ready to play. However, the same did not hold true for the visiting Cardinals as they were unable to come up with a quorum and were forced to forfeit.

With the gimmie win in hand, the Knights took the opportunity last night to practice under the lights and made the most of a disappointing situation. "Hey, I get paid either way" said umpire Brock Anderson as he shed his uniform and joined the spirited practice session.

Next up for the Knights, a scheduled Saturday morning road game in Murfreesboro. With the table now set, the question must be asked, does any team in the CVABA want to take on the Knights?

Knights Quiet Thunder

Second Win In The Books
Murfreesboro, TN

Coming off a disappointing Thursday night loss, the Knights took to the the road Saturday and by afternoons end returned to Nashville with their second victory of the season.

Facing perennial league powerhouse the Thunder, the Knights battled nearly 100 degree temperatures as they outlasted the Thunder to win the game by an official score of 9-0.

"I can only think of one better birthday present then this win" said Knights starting pitcher Ross Harkins as he hurriedly left the field and headed home to blow out the inferno atop his birthday cake.

"Not bad" chimed Knights Manager Bill Gubbins, "we hit a few balls and made a few plays in the field, I'll take it." continued Gubbins as packed away his catchers gear on a day that saw him lose 8lbs by days end.

And so it was, the Knights strike again and by being awarded the forfeit due to the lack of Thunder players, show that it is in fact true that a win by any other name is still a win.

Next up for the Knights, a few days to rest and relax before taking the field for their Tuesday night rematch against the Cardinals at Independence High School in nearby Thompson Station.

Say Good Knight

Knights Fall
Thompsons Station

"That's bulls*%# " snapped Knights Manager and catcher Bill Gubbins as he was restrained by teammates following a second inning eruption reminiscent of George Brett's now famous dugout charge of years ago.

Gubbins explosion, fueled by the rare but deadly call of 'batting out of order', came in the second inning of a game that would eventually see the Knights give away a game that would have, could have, and should have been put in the books as a W.

"I take full responsibility for what happened with the lineup card tonight" said Gubbins following the game, "And, I promise it will never happen again!" added the still angry Gubbins as he slammed his Diet Pepsi against the dug out wall following the game.

Gubbins continued his post game rant, "I don't care what level of baseball you are playing, I don't care if it's Little League or the frickin Major Leagues, when your team scores 10 runs, you should win, it's that simple." Gubbins was of referring to the fact that despite scoring a season high 10 runs, the Knights kicked and booted the win away in part behind the 3 error night of 50 year old rookie Don Bernitt.

Bernitt's errors at second base, played a large part in the final outcome of the game. "You have to make the routine outs in order to win in this league and I didn't do that tonight" said Bernitt. "I'm better then that I look forward to making this up to my teammates."

Facing a quick turnaround, the Knights will have a chance to right their ship as they find themselves in the middle of a stretch that will have them play 3 games in 6 days. Up next, a Saturday afternoon tilt in Murfreesboro as the Knights look to get back into the winners column.

With June's summer temperatures on the rise, it is now becoming ever more clear that also on the rise are the expectations of the Knights, and all those who follow them as they their gallop through the Cumberland Valley Adult Baseball Association.

As the ole saying goes, the pitcher had but three pitches; Good Morning, Good Afternoon and Good Knight!

Warm Days...Hot Knights...

Knights Record First Win
Nashville,TN

After an 0 -3 start in the 2009 Cumberland Valley Adult Baseball League , the Nashville Knights picked up their first win of the season this past weekend behind the strong pitching of a trio of right handers.

During the game that saw a trivia question come alive, starting pitcher Robin Burnette picked up both the win and the save for the now 1-3 Knights. In a pitching performance not likely to be repeated soon at any level of organized baseball, Burnette tossed 3 shutout innings to start the game and then returned to the mound to record the last two outs in the 9th on his way to picking up the win and the save.

Stacked between Burnette's 3 inning stint to start the game, and his picking up the save, Knights relief pitchers Ross Harkins and Doug Weaver came out of the bullpen to combine for 10 strikeouts to help lead the Knights to the win.

"I'm darn proud of these guys" said Knights manager and starting catcher Bill Gubbins following the game. "We've worked hard the past few weeks tweaking our lineup and trying to get a feel for what type of team we have here." "I think this shows that we can play with any team in this league" added Gubbins as he sat in the Knights dugout following the game.

In addition to the stellar pitching, the Knights also broke out their hitting shoes and gloves as they recorded a season high 16 hits in route to the 5 - 4 victory. Paced by the multiple hit game of David Hall, Mark Gardner and Kevin Wunderlin, the Knights jumped out to a 5 -1 lead and then played error free defense to close out the victory.

With a win under their belts, it's now go time for the Knights. If they can dodge the raindrops and keep the bats going, it appears a corner has been turned and we have seen the beginning of a great season of Knights baseball.
